@acbarebear @ironcore I wonder if this was a conscious decision by Nintendo, considering how often online leader boards find their top ten filled with hackers registering times below one second? So often, it is so hard to tell if times are legit or not. I find that really mars online leaderboards for me. Friend leader boards would work, though!
@Ryu_Niiyama That's kind of the "gimmick" of Hololive Gamers. because the veteran Vtuber started the group with a bunch of her not-yet-debut friends, Hololive have them all the same motif as her and made her the leader. Hijinks ensues since.
Shirokami Fubuki is the lead in case you were wondering
Good grief, no, I’m old-fashioned and fringe YouTube-era trends like vtubers and ASMR just aren’t my cup of tea. If I ever happen to watch a playthrough, it’s usually Arino-san from Game Center CX, for the comedic value.
Actually, I think Nintendo of Japan already posted a Switch newsfeed video of him and his “Yoiko” comedy partner playing NES Champs. I’m more likely to watch that.
I find the hostility here towards vtubers particularly odd, and that's coming from someone who's only watched a few clips of them here and there.
From what I understand, one reason some people use vtuber models is not for weird parasocial relationships or anything but because they are camera shy and don't want people commenting on their real appearance.
The vitriol here towards vtubers is actually kind of shocking. Hololive at least, are just entertainers at their core who are actually pretty funny. Do they rely on sexualization at times? Yes, but it's not their entire identity. And Hololive at least has gained a decent amount of influence, seeing as they did a collab with the Dodgers of all things, and actually packed the stadium. And some Hololive streamers at least, put their foot down and shut down the parasocial aspects of it, all they want to do is entertain.
@AccessibleDaydream And I hope this is a joke or something. Because the problem totally isn't the blatant misinformation that's running rampant over the internet, people looking for quick and easy info to affirm their (likely) incorrect opinion, or those who are letting powerful figures dictate their thought processes rather than thinking for themselves. Nope, the cause of everything wrong, is anime pngs. I can't believe it was that simple.
@SuperBro64 heck that’s why I would do it, I’m just camera shy, and I think it’s awesome that those kind of people can still entertain. I don’t know, I kinda feel like its a little rude to almost imply that what the goal is and what they want is a parasocial relationship with their audience when that kind of thing is very weird for twitch streamers let alone vtubers. I don’t know maybe they do and I just never noticed but it almost like people are forgetting they are still people.
I don't know guys, using the term "fake" for their avatars does not sound right. Come up with a better term.
Also not a fan with reading some of these other comments.
And to stay on topic, this tournament is gonna be pretty good. I don't know if I will watch it though.
@Ooyah I do agree but effectively that's the product they are selling. Some people are singles or dont have friend lists. There are ways to identify hacked times particularly if they have ghost replays like Mario Kart. I'd like to see permanent leaderboards for all challenges (global, region, friends, gender, age).
Also with the championships I'd like to see as many trial runs as you like, but one real run per challenge. Once you're ready to go you get one attempt (per challenge) and if you mess up / disconnect, bad luck.
Currently we have a speed running community without leaderboards, and a championship community without the cut throat pressure of competition. Seems like an odd choice to get behind a game like this but to not go the full way.
I hate it, it's ugly and they all look the same. I realize I'm not the target demographic, can't stand the whole vlogger begging culture, but yikes. If people are afraid to show themselves on camera, a voice over would be a lot better in my opinion. If someone is going to be talking on screen, I want to see their facial expressions when they say it. I see enough video game characters as it is, this is a huge downgrade from the real human experience.
